Nature's Answer

Nature's Answer is a family-run American producer of herbal extracts, founded in 1972. Most of the range is liquid: fluid extracts in 30 ml dropper bottles, liquid vitamins and minerals, plus a smaller line of capsules. That makes it one of the more distinctive names among the brands in our range, and it needs a short explanation before you choose a bottle.

Concentrated extracts, not standard tinctures

Nature's Answer works with a true 1:1 fluid extract. One millilitre carries the equivalent of one gram of dried herb. Many standard tinctures are 1:4 or 1:5, so you need several millilitres to reach the same amount of plant material. The extracts are made cold, without heat, a process the brand calls Bio-Chelation. In daily use that means small volumes, a strong taste, and a label that tells you exactly what one millilitre contains.

Alcohol-free or low alcohol

Most extracts come in two versions: alcohol-free, with vegetable glycerine as the solvent, and low alcohol, made with organic alcohol. Alcohol-free is the usual pick for children, for anyone avoiding alcohol, and for people who dislike the sting on the tongue. Glycerine holds on to fewer of the resin-rich plant compounds, so for herbs such as myrrh or lobelia the low-alcohol version often suits better. If you already use tinctures from other producers, note that the dosing volumes here are usually smaller.

Who liquid extracts suit

Give a daily herb two to three weeks of consistent use before you judge it. Keep opened alcohol-free bottles cool and dark, because glycerine keeps less long than alcohol.
