Choosing bone and joint support that earns its place
Bone is living tissue. Your body breaks it down and rebuilds it throughout life, using minerals and protein from your food. Cartilage in your joints works differently: it has almost no blood supply, so it renews slowly. That one difference explains why bone nutrients and joint ingredients are judged on very different evidence.
What European law lets us claim
Only a short list of nutrients has approved health claims in this area. Calcium, magnesium, zinc, vitamin D and vitamin K contribute to the maintenance of normal bones. Manganese contributes to the normal formation of connective tissue. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of cartilage and bones. That is why our vitamin D3 options sit at the centre of this collection rather than at the edge. Glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, turmeric and collagen peptides have no approved claim in Europe. We still stock them, because many people use them for years and want a well-made version. We simply describe them for what they are.
Forms and amounts we look at
Two products can name the same ingredient and behave very differently. These are the details we check on every label:
- Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) over D2, because D3 raises blood levels more reliably.
- Vitamin K2 as MK-7, which stays in the blood far longer than MK-4 at the same amount.
- Calcium split across the day, since the body absorbs a smaller share of each dose as the dose grows.
- Magnesium as citrate, bisglycinate or malate rather than oxide, which is poorly absorbed.
- Glucosamine sulphate at the amount used in research, not a token 200 mg inside a crowded blend.
- Hydrolysed collagen, meaning the protein is cut into small peptides the gut can take up.
How we choose what goes in this collection
We buy directly from the brands, with no intermediaries, so what arrives is what the label says. For this category we weigh three things: the form, the dose and the combination. Vitamin D with K2 and magnesium makes sense on one label. A fifteen-ingredient joint blend at pinch doses does not, and we leave those out. Every product passes our compliance team before it goes live, we test products ourselves, and independent labs spot-check batches. After more than ten years, that is still the shortest honest summary of our work. See how we select brands and products.
Give whatever you choose real time. Bone changes over months, not weeks. People who use hydrolysed collagen powders or glucosamine for joint comfort usually judge the result after eight to twelve weeks of daily use. Stopping after ten days tells you nothing. None of this replaces weight-bearing exercise and enough protein, which do more for bone than any capsule.
This collection suits three groups in particular: adults over fifty who want to protect bone density, people whose knees and hips feel stiff after years of running or standing work, and lifters who load their joints hard. If you train, the rest of the MOVE + RECOVER range covers recovery and hydration alongside what you find here.
Frequently asked questions
Two different groups sit under one heading. The first is nutrients your skeleton genuinely needs from food: calcium, magnesium, zinc, vitamin D, vitamin K, vitamin C and manganese. The second is structural ingredients aimed at cartilage and connective tissue, such as glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM and collagen peptides. The first group has approved health claims in Europe. The second does not, which is worth knowing before you compare prices.
