NOW Foods supplements: ranges, forms and quality checks
NOW Foods is an American family business, founded in 1968 and based in Bloomingdale, Illinois. It makes most of its own products instead of outsourcing them. That is unusual, and it explains a line that runs from single vitamins to protein powders and essential oils. You will find it alongside the other names in our full brand overview.
Own laboratories behind every batch
NOW runs its own analytical and microbiology labs and reports more than 31,000 tests each month, from incoming raw materials to finished bottles. Its manufacturing has held an A rating in the Natural Products Association GMP programme since 2000. For sport, the NOW Sports line is certified by Informed Sport: LGC tests production batches for more than 200 banned substances. That matters if you are subject to doping control.
Price reflects how the brand is built
NOW manufactures and distributes itself, so a magnesium bisglycinate or a creatine monohydrate usually costs less than the same form from a clinical brand. That is a sourcing choice, not a shortcut. The same lab checks apply to the cheapest bottle and the most expensive one.
Four ranges under one name
- NOW: vitamins, minerals, herbs and amino acids.
- NOW Sports: protein, creatine and amino acids, made without aspartame, sucralose or acesulfame-K.
- NOW Solutions: personal care and essential oils.
- NOW Real Food: nuts, seeds and store cupboard basics.
Part of the line carries Non-GMO Project Verified or USDA Organic seals. Items with the gluten-free seal are tested to 20 ppm or less.
Read the capsule, not just the front label
Not everything is vegetarian. Traditional softgels and some capsules use beef gelatine, while a large part of the line uses plant cellulose capsules marked Veg Caps. Forms differ within one nutrient too. Magnesium appears as oxide, citrate and bisglycinate, and those three are not interchangeable, which is exactly the choice we explain on our page about magnesium forms.
Why we carry NOW Foods
We judge a brand on the form, the dose and whether the combinations make sense, not on the size of its catalogue. So we stock the products we would hand to our own mother: magnesium bisglycinate rather than oxide, fish oil with EPA and DHA stated per softgel, single nutrients you can dose yourself. We buy directly from the brand, without intermediaries, and every product passes our compliance team before it goes live. We test products ourselves and independent labs spot-check batches. You can read how we select brands in detail.
Who it suits
This brand suits you if you take several supplements a day and want one consistent maker at a moderate price. It suits you less if you want everything in one capsule, because the line is built around single nutrients and simple formulas. Products sold here follow UK food law, so a strength printed on a US label is not always the strength in your basket. Give any new supplement two to three weeks of consistent use before you judge it, whether that is a fish oil softgel or a B-complex.
Frequently asked questions
NOW Foods is a family-owned American company, founded in 1968 and based in Bloomingdale, Illinois, with further production in Nevada and Canada. Unlike many supplement brands, it manufactures most of its own products rather than buying them from contract producers. That is why the line is so broad: vitamins, minerals, herbs, amino acids, sports nutrition, essential oils and store cupboard foods all come from the same operation.
