Question 1

What kind of brand is Linn Pharma?

Accepted Answer

Linn Pharma is a Dutch company with more than twenty years in cosmetics, health products and over-the-counter medicines. Its best known product is topical minoxidil for hereditary hair loss, which the company produces itself in the Netherlands. Because that minoxidil is registered as a medicine, every bottle carries a licensed strength, a set dose and a package leaflet. That is a different regulatory level from a cosmetic hair lotion, which is worth knowing before you compare prices.

Question 2

Which Linn Pharma products are there?

Accepted Answer

The range centres on topical minoxidil in two strengths, 2% and 5%. Both are available as a spray solution in 100 ml bottles, and the 5% is also made as a foam in 60 g cans. Multi-packs exist because treatment runs for months rather than weeks. Linn also produces melatonin tablets as a registered medicine for the Dutch market. In the UK melatonin is prescription-only, so that product is not sold over the counter here.

Question 3

Should I choose the spray solution or the foam?

Accepted Answer

The active ingredient is the same, so pick on comfort and skin tolerance rather than expected results.

Form	Base	Feel	Suits
Spray solution	Alcohol and propylene glycol	Wet, slower to dry	Scalps that tolerate it, lower cost
Foam	No propylene glycol	Dries fast, little residue	Itchy or sensitive scalp, morning use

If the solution stings or flakes your scalp, try the foam before lowering the strength.

Question 4

How do I apply it correctly?

Accepted Answer

Apply it to a clean, dry scalp, not to wet hair, and spread it over the thinning area with your fingertips rather than aiming at one spot. Wash your hands afterwards, so it does not transfer to your face. Give it time to dry before a pillow or a hat. With foam, cool your fingers first, because warm skin melts it. Always follow the dose and frequency in your product's leaflet.

Question 5

How long before I see any change?

Accepted Answer

Plan in months, not weeks. Most people see nothing in the first two months, since a hair follicle needs a full cycle to respond. First changes often show around three to four months, and a fair verdict takes about six months of daily use. NHS information also notes it can take up to six months to work. If nothing has changed after that, switching brand or strength is unlikely to fix it, and a GP or dermatologist is the better next step.

Question 6

Is extra hair fall in the first weeks normal?

Accepted Answer

Some people do notice more hairs in the brush shortly after starting. Minoxidil speeds up the hair cycle, so resting hairs are pushed out sooner to make room for new growth. NHS hospital information describes this early increase in shedding as usually settling within roughly the first six weeks. It is unpleasant but temporary for most users. If shedding is heavy, lasts for months, or new bald patches appear, stop guessing and see a doctor.

Question 7

Can women use Linn minoxidil?

Accepted Answer

Yes, topical minoxidil is licensed in the UK for women as well as men, but the strength and frequency differ per formulation, so the leaflet decides, not a general rule. The 2% solution is the usual starting point for female pattern thinning. A GP visit first is genuinely useful for women, because iron deficiency and thyroid problems are common causes of thinning and respond to something entirely different. Do not use it during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Question 8

What happens if I stop using it?

Accepted Answer

The gains fade. Minoxidil keeps follicles in the growth phase while it is being applied; once you stop, those follicles return to their previous course and the hair you gained is usually lost over a few months. So the honest question before buying is not which strength to pick, but whether you want a daily routine for years. If that does not fit your life, a cosmetic lotion or a supportive supplement is a more realistic starting point.

Question 9

Can I combine it with a hair supplement or a shampoo?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and they do different jobs. Minoxidil acts on the follicle itself. A nutrient approach only helps when something is genuinely short, for example iron, zinc or biotin, which is why our hair growth supplements are best matched to a diet gap rather than added on top of everything. Use a mild shampoo and wash before applying, not after. Never expect a shampoo to replace a registered medicine.
