What sets Vitakruid supplements apart
Vitakruid is a Dutch family brand that has made food supplements since 2000. Its approach is orthomolecular: working with nutrients the body already recognises, in forms and doses it can actually use. You see that on the label. Where budget products use magnesium oxide, Vitakruid works with magnesium in chelated forms such as bisglycinate, taurate, malate and citrate. Where budget multivitamins use folic acid and cyanocobalamin, it uses active folate and methylcobalamin, so your body does not have to convert them first.
What you will find in this collection
The range falls into four groups, each with a clear job:
- Minerals: several magnesium options, plus zinc bound to methionine and iron in a gentler bisglycinate form.
- Multivitamins: the Multi Day & Night line splits the daytime dose from the evening dose, with versions for women, men, juniors and pregnancy.
- SilSolutions: a drinkable silicon formula, the product most people know the brand for.
- Sport: whey concentrate, hydrolysed whey isolate, clear whey, fermented vegan protein and creatine monohydrate.
The day and night split is the clearest example of the brand's thinking: B vitamins and vitamin C in the daytime tablet, minerals and vitamin D in the evening one. Whether that timing matters much is debatable, but the dosing itself is sound.
Why we carry Vitakruid
We judge a brand on three things: the form of the ingredient, the dose, and whether the combinations make sense. Vitakruid holds up on all three. The magnesium bisglycinate tablets add L-taurine, and the multivitamins use B vitamins in their active forms rather than the cheapest ones. Doses are workable rather than token. We buy directly from the brand, so every jar is authentic, and our compliance team checks each product before it goes live. We test products ourselves and independent labs spot-check batches. See how we choose brands.
Who it suits, and where to stay realistic
Vitakruid fits you if you read labels and want to know which form of a nutrient you are taking. It costs more than supermarket own-brand vitamins, because chelated minerals and active B vitamins are more expensive to produce. If price is your first filter, that is worth knowing before you order.
Two honest notes. The tablets are large, and users regularly mention this; splitting them or choosing a powder or liquid version helps. And silicon, the ingredient in SilSolutions, carries no approved health claim in Europe. EFSA assessed the applications for skin, hair, nails and bone and did not accept them, so we describe SilSolutions as a source of silicon and leave it there.
Magnesium sits in a different category: it is officially recognised for normal muscle function, normal psychological function and the reduction of tiredness. Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones. Those are the claims we use, and we do not stack them into a bigger promise. Give any daily supplement two to three weeks of consistent use before you judge it, and use it next to a varied diet, not in place of one. If you want to compare, look at the same nutrient in other brands we carry and check the form and the dose per serving, not the number on the front of the jar.
Frequently asked questions
What kind of brand is Vitakruid?
Vitakruid is a Dutch family business that has developed food supplements since 2000. It works from an orthomolecular starting point, which means choosing nutrient forms the body recognises and dosing them at levels that are meant to do something. In practice you see chelated minerals, active B vitamins and formulas built around one clear purpose. The range covers minerals, multivitamins, plant extracts, a drinkable silicon formula and sports nutrition.
Which Vitakruid products do people buy most often?
Three lines account for most of the demand. Magnesium, either the single form Magnesium 150 Bisglycinate with added L-taurine or Magnesium 200 Complex, which combines bisglycinate, taurate, malate and citrate. The Multi Day & Night multivitamins, split into a daytime and an evening tablet with versions for women, men, juniors and pregnancy. And SilSolutions, the drinkable silicon formula that made the brand known outside the Netherlands.
Which form should I choose: tablet, capsule, powder or liquid?
The form mainly decides how easy the product is to take every day. The nutrient inside matters more than the shell around it.
| Form | How you take it | Suits you if |
|---|---|---|
| Tablet | With water, with food | You want the highest dose per unit |
| Capsule | With water | You dislike a chalky taste |
| Powder | In water or a shake | You take large amounts, such as protein |
| Liquid | Measured with a cap or spoon | You struggle to swallow tablets |
Vitakruid tablets are on the large side, so a liquid or powder is the practical choice if swallowing is an issue.
How do I take Vitakruid magnesium, and at what time of day?
The label usually allows one to three tablets a day. Start with one and stay there for two to three weeks before you change anything, because that is roughly how long it takes to notice a difference. Magnesium is absorbed slightly better when you take it apart from a large mineral-rich meal. Many people take it in the evening simply because that fits their routine; there is no rule saying you must. Spreading two tablets over the day is usually gentler on the stomach.
Are Vitakruid supplements vegan and free from unnecessary additives?
A large part of the range is vegan or vegetarian, and many products are made without gluten, lactose, sugar, yeast, artificial colours, flavours and preservatives. It is not the whole range: whey protein comes from milk, and some softgels use animal gelatin. Because formulas change, we always list the current allergen and diet labels on the product page itself. Check there rather than assuming it applies brand-wide.
How much vitamin D should I take alongside a Vitakruid multivitamin?
Multivitamins already contain vitamin D, so add up everything you take rather than looking at one label. UK guidance gives clear reference amounts.
| Group | Daily amount | Do not exceed |
|---|---|---|
| Adults and children 11+ | 10 mcg (400 IU) | 100 mcg (4,000 IU) |
| Children 1 to 10 years | 10 mcg (400 IU) | 50 mcg (2,000 IU) |
| Babies under 12 months | 8.5 to 10 mcg (340 to 400 IU) | 25 mcg (1,000 IU) |
Does SilSolutions really do something for hair, skin and nails?
SilSolutions delivers silicon in a drinkable form that the body absorbs well. What we will not do is promise results. EFSA assessed the health claims submitted for silicon, including collagen formation, skin appearance, hair and nails and bone, and did not accept them. So the honest position is this: it is a well-absorbed source of silicon, and people buy it as part of a beauty routine, not because the effect is officially recognised. If that is the trade-off you want, our silicon supplements page shows the alternatives.
Which Vitakruid multivitamin fits pregnancy, and what should I check first?
Multi Day & Night Mama is the version built for pregnancy and breastfeeding, with folate in its active form and iron in a gentler bisglycinate form. One UK point matters more than any marketing message: NHS advice is to avoid supplements containing vitamin A (retinol) and liver during pregnancy, because too much vitamin A can harm the baby. So check the vitamin A content and form on every label, including any general multivitamin you already take, and speak with your midwife or GP if you are combining products.
