Viridian Synerbio Saccharomyces boulardii (30 capsules) combines the yeast Saccharomyces boulardii with five bacterial strains from the Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium groups. Each capsule contains 250 mg Saccharomyces boulardii, which corresponds to 5 billion CFU, supplemented with 1.5 billion CFU of the Synerbio bacteria mix with Lactobacillus acidophilus DDS-1 and four Bifidobacterium strains. The bacterial strains are in a base of FS2-60, a combination of fructo-oligosaccharides and inulin from plants. The vegan capsules do not need to be kept refrigerated and du can open them to mix the contents into cold food or drink, making the product practical for home and on the go.
What is Saccharomyces boulardii?
Saccharomyces boulardii is a yeast discovered in 1920 by the French microbiologist Henri Boulard, in the skin of lychees. It is a live yeast used in food supplements.
Is Saccharomyces boulardii the same as baker’s yeast?
Not quite. Saccharomyces boulardii is scientifically regarded as a variant of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the species which also includes baker's and brewer’s yeast. However, it is a distinct strain with a different name and use.
What is the difference between a yeast and a bacterium?
A yeast is a single-celled fungus with a cell nucleus, such as Saccharomyces boulardii. A bacterium is a different type of microorganism, without a cell nucleus, such as the Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains in this product. So this supplement contains both a yeast and five bacterial strains.
What does CFU mean?
CFU stands for Colony Forming Units. It is the unit of measurement for the number of live microorganisms, such as yeasts and bacteria, in a supplement.
What is Lactobacillus acidophilus?
