Viridian Vitamin D3 1000 IU (30 or 90 capsules) contains vitamin D3 sourced from lichen, a plant-based source. Each capsule provides 25 mcg (1000 IU) vitamin D3. What is vitamin D3?
Vitamin D3 is one of the forms of vitamin D and belongs to the fat-soluble vitamins. The chemical name is cholecalciferol. It occurs in a limited number of foods and is also available as a supplement.

What is lichen?
Lichen is a life form that arises from a collaboration between a fungus and an alga or cyanobacterium. Lichens grow on, among other things, rocks, tree bark, and soil, and are used as a plant-based source of vitamin D3.
What is the difference between vitamin D2 and vitamin D3?
Vitamin D2, also known as ergocalciferol, is derived from yeasts and mushrooms. Vitamin D3, also known as cholecalciferol, usually comes from animal sources. The vitamin D3 in this product comes from lichen and is therefore plant-based.
Why do you take vitamin D3 with a meal?
Vitamin D3 is a fat-soluble vitamin. This means that the substance dissolves in fat and not in water, just like for example vitamins A, E and K. That is why the manufacturer advises taking the capsules with a meal, preferably one that contains fat. Think of a breakfast with eggs, yoghurt or bread with butter, or a hot meal with fish, oil or avocado.
