Viridian Vitamin D3 Vegan 3000 IU (60 capsules) contains 75 mcg (3000 IU) vitamin D3 per plant-based capsule, derived from vegan cholecalciferol from lichen. The recommended dose is one capsule per day, preferably during a meal. Available in a pack of 60, sufficient for about 2 months with daily use. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Vitamin D2 is made from yeasts or mushrooms. Vitamin D3 is usually derived from animal sources, such as wool fat. This supplement contains vitamin D3 from lichen, making it suitable for a vegan lifestyle.
Vitamin D3 is naturally present in, among others, salmon, herring, mackerel, sardines, eggs and liver. In addition, vitamin D is added to some foods, such as margarine and low-fat margarine.
Lichen is a natural collaboration between a fungus and an alga. Some types produce vitamin D3 when exposed to sunlight. This vitamin D3 is used as a plant-based source for this supplement.
Many vitamin D3 supplements are made from wool fat (lanolin) from sheep. In this supplement, the vitamin D3 comes from lichen, meaning no animal ingredients are used.
Vitamin D3 is a fat-soluble vitamin. That’s why it is advised to take the capsule during a meal, preferably one that contains some fat, such as nuts, avocado, olive oil or dairy (alternatives).
Many people choose a vitamin D3 supplement during periods when they spend little time outdoors or are less exposed to sunlight, for example during the autumn and winter months. Also, people who cover most of their skin or mainly work indoors regularly opt for a vitamin D3 supplement.
