Viridian High Potency Curcumin Complex (30 capsules) contains per capsule 250 mg turmeric root extract (Curcuma longa), standardised to 85% curcuminoids, which is equivalent to 212.5 mg curcuminoids. In addition, each capsule contains 100 mg Boswellin®, a resin extract of the Indian frankincense tree (Boswellia serrata), 100 mg ginger extract (Zingiber officinale), equivalent to 500 mg fresh ginger, and 100 mg citrus bioflavonoids. The curcumin is grown on a small-scale farm in South India and is organically certified by the Soil Association. The recommended dose is 1 capsule per day with a meal, making the pack last about 30 days. You can swallow the capsules whole or open them and mix with cold food or drink, making the product practical for daily use.
What is turmeric?
Turmeric (Curcuma longa), also known as yellow root, is a plant from the ginger family. The dried and ground rhizome is used worldwide as a spice and is a staple in many curry mixes, to which it gives a yellow colour.
What is the difference between turmeric and curcumin?
Turmeric is the plant and the spice made from its rhizome. Curcumin is one of the substances naturally found in turmeric and gives the spice its yellow colour.
What are curcuminoids?
Curcuminoids are a group of natural substances from turmeric. The three main ones are curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, and bisdemethoxycurcumin. In this extract, the largest part of the curcuminoids consists of curcumin.
What does standardised to 85% curcuminoids mean?
This means that the turmeric extract contains a set content of 85% curcuminoids. So, of the 250 mg extract per capsule, 212.5 mg are curcuminoids. Thanks to this standardisation, the composition remains the same between different production batches.
Why use a turmeric extract instead of turmeric powder?
Ordinary ground turmeric naturally contains a low percentage of curcuminoids, usually just a few percent. In an extract, these substances are concentrated, so a capsule contains a much higher amount of curcuminoids than the same amount of turmeric powder.
What is Boswellia serrata?
Boswellia serrata, also called Indian frankincense tree, is a tree that naturally occurs in dry, mountainous areas in India. A resin is obtained from the bark, which has been used as incense for centuries.
