Nordic Naturals Omega-3 Pet (90 or 180 softgels) for dogs contains fish oil from wild-caught, sustainably fished anchovies and sardines. Each softgel contains 1000 mg of fish oil with 155 mg EPA, 100 mg DHA, and a total of 320 mg omega-3 fatty acids in triglyceride form. The fish oil from Nordic Naturals is Friend of the Sea certified. Depending on your dog’s weight, you give 1 to 6 softgels daily, either on their own or mixed into the food. For small dogs, pierce the softgel and drip the oil over the food. A pack of 90 softgels lasts approximately 15 to 90 days, a pack of 180 softgels lasts approximately 30 to 180 days.
What are omega-3 fatty acids?
Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fats naturally found in oily fish, shellfish, crustaceans, algae, and certain plant sources. The best known forms are EPA, DHA, and ALA.
What is the difference between EPA and DHA?
EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) are two omega-3 fatty acids found mainly in oily fish and algae. In this product, they come from fish oil from anchovies and sardines. Each softgel contains 155 mg EPA and 100 mg DHA.
How many softgels do you give your dog?
That depends on your dog's weight. The manufacturer recommends 1 softgel per day for dogs of about 4.5 to 8.5 kg, increasing to 6 softgels per day for dogs of about 50 to 59 kg. You can find the full schedule with the recommended dosage.
How do you give a softgel to a small dog?
For dogs of about 4.5 to 8.5 kg, pierce the softgel and drip the oil directly over the food. Larger dogs can take the softgel whole, straight or with food.
What does triglyceride form mean?
A triglyceride is the form in which fats naturally occur in fish. In this, three fatty acids are bound to a glycerol molecule. The omega-3 fatty acids in this product are present in this form.
What is Friend of the Sea?
Friend of the Sea is an international certification for products from sustainable fishing and aquaculture. The fish oil from Nordic Naturals carries this certificate.
