What is marine collagen?
Marine collagen is collagen that is extracted from fish, in this case from white fish, as opposed to collagen derived from cattle or pigs.
What is the difference between collagen type I and type III?
Collagen type I is the most common form of collagen and is extracted, among other sources, from the skin and scales of fish. Collagen type III has a different molecular structure and is obtained via a separate process from fish tissue. This product contains both types side by side.
Does collagen come from animal products?
Yes, real collagen usually comes from animal sources, such as skin, bones, or broth from fish, cattle, or pigs. In this supplement, the collagen comes from white fish.
What are collagen peptides?
Collagen peptides are smaller units of collagen created by breaking down the collagen protein using a process with water and enzymes. This makes the collagen soluble in liquids, such as water or a beverage of your choice.
What are amino acids?
Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Each amino acid has its own chemical structure, and different combinations of amino acids together form the many proteins found in nature.
What is the difference between essential and non-essential amino acids?
Essential amino acids are amino acids that can only be obtained through the diet. Non-essential amino acids are amino acids that do not necessarily have to be obtained from food.
Why is collagen not considered a complete protein source?
Collagen protein does not contain all the essential amino acids; the amino acid tryptophan is missing. For this reason, it does not count towards the recommended daily amount of protein according to the FDA.
