What single-serve sachets do well, and where they fall short
A stick, also called a stick pack or stick sachet, is a slim sealed sachet holding one measured serving. You tear the top, tip it into water and drink it. No scoop, no scales, no tub to carry. Most sticks contain powder, a few contain a gel or a liquid.
The format changes how a powder behaves
A sealed sachet meets air only once, when you open it. A tub gets opened every day, so moisture and oxygen keep getting in. That matters most for powders that clump or lose strength over time, such as live bacteria cultures, vitamin C and greens blends. Sticks also lock the dose. Five grams of creatine stays five grams, with no heaped or half scoops.
The honest trade-off is cost and volume. Per serving, a stick is nearly always dearer than the same powder from a tub, because you also pay for the sachet and the filling. A stick holds a limited amount too, from about one gram for a focus blend up to roughly thirty grams, so a full protein serving often needs two sachets. Add the powder to the water rather than the water to the powder, and use a bottle you can shake or a glass you can stir well. Collagen and electrolytes dissolve easily in cold water. Greens, fibre and creatine mix better in about 250 to 300 ml and benefit from twenty seconds of shaking. If a fibre stick thickens quickly, drink it straight after mixing.
Only when the label says so. Some sticks are made as a fine, fast-dissolving powder designed to be poured onto the tongue, which is common for live bacteria cultures and children's products. Most others, especially electrolytes, greens and creatine, are meant to be mixed. Taking a concentrated powder dry can taste harsh and is easy to inhale, so check the instructions first.
You pay for the packaging and the filling. Each sachet is printed, filled and sealed separately, which costs more than one scoop and one lid. In return you get an exact dose, a pack that only meets air once, and something you can carry without a shaker. If you take the same product every day at home, a tub is cheaper. For travel, the office or trying a flavour, the extra cost buys real convenience.
Keep them somewhere cool, dry and out of direct sunlight, and check the best-before date on the box. Because each sachet stays sealed until use, the powder inside is protected from moisture better than the same product in a tub you open daily. Do not decant sticks into a pill box: once opened, the sachet gives no protection. Live bacteria cultures in stick form usually need no fridge, but follow the label.
Some are made specifically for children, such as powders with live bacteria cultures and vitamins for ages three and up, and they are often designed to go straight onto the tongue or into a cold drink. Always use the age range and dose printed on the pack. Sticks intended for adults are a different matter: energy and pre-workout sachets can hold a high dose of caffeine and are not suitable for children.
