Trace Minerals Low Sodium ConcenTrace® Mineral Drops (15, 59, 118 or 236 ml) contain concentrated seawater from the Great Salt Lake in Utah. A serving of ½ teaspoon (2.5 ml, approximately 40 drops) contains 250 mg magnesium and 650 mg chloride, supplemented with 40 mg sulphate, 1 mg boron, and small amounts of sodium and potassium. The flavour is strong, so you mix the drops into juice, a smoothie, or your food. Start with a few drops per day and build up to a maximum of 40 drops, divided over meals. With 40 drops per day, a 236 ml bottle lasts approximately 94 days.
The Great Salt Lake is a large salt lake in the American state of Utah. The lake does not drain into the sea. Water only disappears through evaporation, which leaves the minerals behind. As a result, the water is many times saltier than seawater.
The drops consist of concentrated seawater from the Great Salt Lake. For this type of mineral concentrate, the water is usually evaporated by the sun in shallow basins. During this process, much of the table salt (sodium chloride) crystallises out. What remains is a concentrated liquid rich in magnesium and chloride.
When the water is evaporated, most of the sodium crystallises out as table salt. As a result, a portion of 40 drops contains only 5 mg sodium, while magnesium and chloride remain in the liquid.
Minerals are substances such as magnesium, calcium, potassium, and sodium, which are present in food in relatively large quantities. Trace elements are also minerals, but they occur in much smaller quantities. Examples are boron, zinc and copper.
The drops consist of strongly concentrated seawater with a lot of magnesium chloride. This gives a salty, slightly bitter taste. That’s why the manufacturer recommends mixing the drops into juice or food and spreading the serving over the day.
Magnesium is naturally present in green leafy vegetables such as spinach, nuts, seeds like pumpkin seeds, legumes, wholegrain products and cocoa. Seawater and some types of mineral water also contain magnesium.
Chloride is mainly present in food as a part of table salt (sodium chloride). That’s why you find it in most salty products, such as bread, cheese, and processed meats. Chloride is also naturally present in seawater, seaweed, tomatoes, and olives.
