What the Swanson vitamins range actually offers
Swanson started in 1969 in Fargo, North Dakota, selling vitamin E by post. The range today covers vitamins, minerals, herbal capsules and probiotics, mostly in plain bottles with high capsule counts. That is the appeal: a low cost per day and an unusually wide choice of single ingredients. You will find it alongside the other Brands we work with, and we only list the items that meet European rules.
Reading the Swanson product lines
The line name on the label tells you what to expect. Swanson Premium is the everyday range: single nutrients and whole-herb capsules at standard strengths. Swanson Ultra uses higher strengths and branded ingredients, such as Albion magnesium chelates, KSM-66 ashwagandha and Pycnogenol. Swanson Superior Herbs holds standardised extracts, meaning the main plant compound is measured to a set percentage in every capsule. Full Spectrum is different again: it is the ground whole herb, not a concentrate. So 720 mg of Full Spectrum turmeric is not comparable with 500 mg of a 95 percent curcumin extract, even though the number looks bigger.
US labels, UK guidance
Swanson prints both units, for example vitamin D3 5,000 IU, which is 125 mcg. UK guidance is 10 mcg, or 400 IU, a day for most people, with 100 mcg a day as the upper limit for adults. A 5,000 IU softgel is therefore a high-strength product for people who have been advised to take more, not a general daily top-up. If you want a modest amount through autumn and winter, pick a lower strength from our vitamin D3 selection and check the mcg figure, not the IU figure.

Swanson works well if you take several supplements and want to keep the monthly cost sensible, or if you are after an ingredient few European brands make. The probiotic capsules state both the strains and the CFU count, which makes them easy to line up against other live culture products in our probiotics range. Two honest points before you order:
- Not everything is made in Fargo. Swanson also uses partner manufacturers, held to the same GMP requirements and third-party testing.
- Vegan status varies. Most capsules use hypromellose, but some softgels use gelatin, so the label decides.
Give any new supplement two to three weeks of steady daily use. That is usually the point at which you can tell whether it earns a place in your routine.

Follow the label, since strengths differ per product. As a rule, take fat-soluble nutrients such as vitamin D3, vitamin E, CoQ10 and omega-3 with a meal that contains some fat, because they need fat to be absorbed. Herbal capsules and minerals are usually taken with water alongside food, which is gentler on the stomach.
Splitting a daily amount over two moments is often easier to keep up than one large dose. Consistency matters more than timing.
Many are, but not all. A large part of the range uses vegan capsules made from hypromellose, a plant-based cellulose shell, and is also labelled non-GMO and gluten free. Softgels are the exception: these often use gelatin, and fish oil or krill oil products are by definition not vegan.
Because the same ingredient can exist in both a capsule and a softgel, always read the specific product label. We list the diet details per product so you do not have to guess.
Swanson labels amounts the American way, in International Units, with the microgram figure next to it. One microgram of vitamin D equals 40 IU. That is why 5,000 IU looks dramatic while UK guidance sits much lower.

No, it means less concentrated. Full Spectrum is the dried, ground whole herb, so a capsule holds a few hundred milligrams of plant material with whatever level of active compounds the harvest happened to contain. A standardised extract concentrates that material and guarantees a set percentage, so a smaller capsule can carry far more of the active compound.
Compare the standardised percentage, not the milligram total. Full Spectrum suits people who want the plain herb; standardised suits anyone who wants the same amount in every capsule.
Part of the range is manufactured at the Fargo, North Dakota facility, which is audited by NSF against GMP standards. The rest comes from partner manufacturers, sometimes outside the United States, and raw materials are sourced worldwide. Swanson requires a Certificate of Analysis per batch from suppliers and sends samples to third-party laboratories to verify label claims.
