Swanson Vitamins Cod Liver Oil Double Strength (30 or 250 softgels) contains a high-quality source of omega-3 fatty acids from Icelandic cod liver, enriched with natural vitamin A and D. Each softgel contains 700 mg of cod liver oil, providing 140 mg of omega-3, including EPA and DHA. In addition, it supplies 750 mcg of vitamin A and 6.8 mcg of vitamin D per capsule. Cod liver oil is a traditional supplement widely used as part of a balanced diet and is ideal for those seeking to supplement their intake of fish fatty acids. The softgels are easy to take and suitable for daily use.
Cod liver oil is an oil extracted from the liver of cod, in this case the Icelandic Gadus morhua. It has long been known as a natural source of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin A and D.
Fish oil is typically extracted from the flesh of fatty fish, while cod liver oil specifically comes from the liver of cod. Cod liver oil naturally contains higher amounts of vitamin A and D than standard fish oil.
Omega fatty acids are a group of unsaturated fatty acids found in foods such as fish, seeds, nuts, and vegetable oils. They are divided into different types, such as omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9, based on their chemical structure.
Omega-3 fatty acids (like EPA and DHA) are mainly found in fatty fish and algae. Omega-6 fatty acids are often found in vegetable oils such as sunflower oil, and omega-9 fatty acids, such as oleic acid, can be found in, among others, olive oil and avocado. The main difference lies in the position of the double bond in the molecular structure.
