Swanson Vitamins Vitamin A (250 softgels) is a dietary supplement with vitamin A derived from both cod liver oil and vitamin A palmitate. This product contains a high dosage per softgel and is suitable for those looking to supplement vitamin A from an animal source. The softgels are small and easy to swallow, making the product user-friendly. In this supplement, vitamin A is present as retinol, a well-absorbed form. Why choose cod liver oil and retinyl palmitate?
Cod liver oil is a well-known, natural source of vitamin A. Retinyl palmitate is added because it has a long shelf life and ensures a consistent amount per softgel. This way, the supplement offers a combination of natural and stabilized vitamin A.
What is the difference between these forms and beta-carotene?
Retinol from cod liver oil and retinyl palmitate is directly usable by the body. Beta-carotene, from sources like carrots, must first be converted to vitamin A. That conversion varies per person and is less efficient.
What does RAE mean for vitamin A?
RAE stands for Retinol Activity Equivalents. This unit is mainly used in the United States.
Is vitamin A from cod liver oil the same as from other animal sources?
Not exactly. Cod liver oil comes from fish (such as cod), while other animal sources like beef or chicken liver also contain vitamin A but in different ratios and forms.
What is the difference between natural and synthetic vitamin A?
Natural vitamin A comes from sources like cod liver oil. Synthetic forms such as retinyl palmitate are made in a controlled production process. Both provide the same type of vitamin A but differ in origin and processing.
