Vitakruid Magnesium Taurate with P-5-P® (30, 90 and 180 capsules) contains magnesium in the form of taurate, bound to the amino acid taurine. Each capsule provides 60 mg magnesium and 625 mg L-taurine, and can easily be spread over the day with 1 to 4 capsules. The formula is supplemented with 0.7 mg vitamin B6 per capsule in the form of pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P-5-P). Thanks to the capsule form, they are easy to take and flexible to dose. Available in 30, 90 and 180 capsules.
Taurine is a sulphur-containing amino acid that naturally occurs in, among other things, meat, fish and shellfish. The name comes from the Latin word taurus, which means bull. Taurine was first extracted from ox bile in 1827.
Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. There are hundreds of amino acids, but 20 of them together form the proteins in food. They are naturally present in protein-rich foods, such as meat, fish, eggs, dairy, legumes and nuts. Taurine is a special amino acid: it is not a building block of proteins, but is present in free form in, among others, meat, fish and shellfish.
Elemental magnesium is the amount of pure magnesium in a magnesium compound. Part of the weight of magnesium taurate consists of taurine. That is why a capsule with magnesium taurate contains less elemental magnesium than you would expect based on the total weight. The label always states the amount of elemental magnesium: 60 mg per capsule.
P-5-P stands for pyridoxal-5-phosphate, an active form of vitamin B6. Other forms of vitamin B6, such as pyridoxine hydrochloride, must first be converted to an active form. P-5-P is already an active form.
Magnesium is mainly found in nuts, seeds and kernels. Per 100 grams, hemp seed contains about 700 mg magnesium, pumpkin seeds 535 mg, cocoa powder 525 mg and Brazil nuts 410 mg. Spinach, avocado and bananas also contain magnesium.
Vitamin B6 naturally occurs in, among other things, meat, fish, whole grain products, potatoes, legumes and bananas.
