Nutrients and botanicals for your cycle, perimenopause and the menopause
Hormones do not follow a straight line. In your twenties and thirties the monthly cycle sets the rhythm. From roughly the mid-forties, perimenopause starts: the years before periods stop, when oestrogen levels swing up and down. In the UK the last period comes at around age 51 on average. This collection follows that whole timeline, so you can start here whether you are tracking a monthly cycle or looking for support during the menopause.
What a food supplement can and cannot say
Food supplements are food, not medicine. That sets a hard limit on what we may promise, and we would rather say so plainly. Vitamin B6 contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity. Magnesium contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to normal psychological function; the different forms of magnesium differ mainly in absorption. Calcium and vitamin D are needed for the maintenance of normal bones, which becomes more relevant after the last period. No food supplement may claim to stop hot flushes. Some sage and black cohosh products carry a THR mark: those are traditional herbal medicines, licensed by the MHRA, and they sit in a different legal category from the vitamins here.
Forms and dosage logic we look at
- Vitamin B6: pyridoxine hydrochloride or pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P-5-P), the form your body already uses. We keep doses moderate, because high B6 taken for months is linked to nerve symptoms.
- Magnesium: citrate and bisglycinate are absorbed better than oxide. We check the elemental magnesium per dose, not the weight of the compound.
- Calcium: paired with vitamin D3, sometimes with K2, and split across the day because large single doses absorb poorly.
- Botanicals: red clover and soy isoflavones stated in mg of isoflavones, and chaste tree (Vitex agnus-castus) as a standardised extract rather than loose powder.
- Iron: useful with heavy periods, but only when a blood test shows a reason.
How a product earns a place on this page
We check three things before we stock anything here: the form of the nutrient, the dose per day, and whether the combination makes sense. A one-a-day with 0.2 mg of B6 does little, and a blend of fourteen botanicals rarely doses any of them properly. We are brand-neutral, so we look at labels, not margins. We buy directly from the brands, which keeps stock authentic, our compliance team checks every product before it goes live, and independent labs spot-check batches alongside our own testing. After more than ten years we still take products off a page when the numbers do not add up. You can read how we select.
Who this collection suits
It suits you if you want to fill specific gaps rather than buy one all-in-one tablet, and if you prefer knowing what is in a dose. Give any nutrient two to three months of daily use before you judge it, and if your cycle is still regular, track two full cycles so you compare like with like. Sleep, protein and strength training do more for midlife energy than any capsule, and the supplements here work best on top of that. This goal sits under BEAUTY + BALANCE, so you will also find BEAUTY + BALANCE pages on skin, hair and self-care nearby.
Frequently asked questions
Everything linked to the female hormonal timeline, in one place. That means the monthly cycle, the premenstrual days, perimenopause (the years of fluctuating oestrogen before periods stop), and the time after the last period. You will find single nutrients such as vitamin B6, magnesium, calcium and vitamin D, plus botanicals like sage, red clover and chaste tree. We group them together because the same nutrients keep coming back at different stages, in different doses.
