In addition to iron, the formula contains vitamin C, active forms of vitamin B6, B12, and folate, as well as zinc, selenium, and copper. Iron supplementation is often advised every other day because after an iron dose, the body limits absorption for the next 24 hours. Dosing every other day allows for better iron absorption and usually causes fewer gastrointestinal complaints.
This supplement contains iron bisglycinate, an organically bound form of iron in which iron is linked to the amino acid glycine. This form is known for its good stability in supplement form.
The vitamin C in this supplement comes from magnesium ascorbate, a buffered form of vitamin C that is milder on the stomach compared to pure ascorbic acid.
A combination of two biologically active forms was chosen: methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin (also known as dibencozide).
The zinc is present as zinc mono-L-methionine sulfate, a patented form under the name L-OptiZinc®. This binding with the amino acid methionine is often used in high-quality supplements.
In addition to iron and zinc, the supplement contains copper (as copper bisglycinate), selenium (as seleno-L-methionine), and molybdenum (as ammonium molybdate). These are all forms that are highly soluble and widely used in dietary supplements.
