The roots and orange-red fruits of the ashwagandha plant have been used for thousands of years. The roots smell like 'ashwa', a horse, which is where the name 'ashwagandha' comes from. The plant is used in up to 200 different medicines in traditional ayurveda. Outside of ayurveda, the ingredient is becoming increasingly popular.

Be careful when using thyroid medications. Scientific literature and some reports from ashwagandha users show that ashwagandha can affect the production of thyroid hormones. This is especially relevant for people who have a thyroid disorder or use thyroid hormones.

Choose a high content of withanolides. Also pay attention to whether you are dealing with ashwagandha root or ashwagandha leaf. Since you do not want too much withaferin A, the roots are the better option because they contain less withaferin A. Daily amount of ashwagandha extract

The daily dosage of ashwagandha for adults is 3 to 6 grams (300-600 mg/day), but temporary intake up to 1200 mg/day is possible (for up to 3 months). So you should not take higher doses of ashwagandha for too long.
