MethylPro® L-Methylfolate 10 mg + Cofactors (30 capsules) is a formula based on active folate (L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate), combined with B vitamins and magnesium citrate. Each capsule contains 10,000 mcg folate, 15 mg vitamin B6 (pyridoxal-5-phosphate), 1000 mcg vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin), and 125 mg magnesium from magnesium citrate. This combination is suitable for people who consciously choose specific forms of B vitamins and minerals.
This product contains 10,000 mcg (=10 mg) folate per daily dose, which is higher than the amount suitable for long-term daily use. Therefore, this product is intended for short-term use (unless otherwise advised by your doctor).
L-methylfolate is a direct, biologically active form of folate. Unlike synthetic folic acid, it does not need to be converted first in the body. It naturally occurs as a breakdown product of folate in foods such as green leafy vegetables and legumes.
DFE stands for Dietary Folate Equivalent. It is a calculation method to compare different forms of folate, such as those from food and supplements. In the EU, folate/folic acid is indicated in mcg and not in DFE.
Vitamin B12 is mainly found in animal products. Methylcobalamin is a commonly used form of B12 in supplements, especially in combination with folate.
Methylcobalamin is an 'active' form of B12. Other forms, such as cyanocobalamin, still need to be converted before they are usable.
