MethylPro® L-Methylfolate 15 mg + Cofactors (30 capsules) is a formula with a high dose of active folate in the form of L-Methylfolate, supplemented with vitamin B6, B12 and magnesium. L-Methylfolate is a specific form of folate. Vitamin B6 is added in the form of pyridoxal-5’-phosphate, B12 as methylcobalamin, and magnesium as magnesium citrate. With one capsule per day, this package is suitable for one month's use.
Folate is an important vitamin, but high doses should be used with caution. This product contains 15,000 mcg (=15 mg) folate per daily dose, which is higher than the amount suitable for long-term daily use. Therefore, this product is intended for temporary use or use as directed by a specialist.
Folate and folic acid are not exactly the same. Folic acid is a synthetic form that is often used in supplements. L-methylfolate is the active form used by the body and has a different chemical structure.
Folate occurs naturally in foods such as green leafy vegetables, legumes, citrus fruits and organ meats. In these products, folate is present in various natural forms.
L-Methylfolate itself is usually not directly obtained from food. It is a form that arises within natural biological processes and is therefore often used as a separate ingredient in supplements.
Magnesium citrate is a form of magnesium that is highly soluble and often used in dietary supplements. Magnesium itself is naturally present in nuts, seeds, green vegetables, whole grains and legumes.
DFE stands for Dietary Folate Equivalent and is an American calculation method for folate intake. In the EU it is not common or necessary to mention DFE on the label. On European labels, folate is expressed in micrograms (µg).
