Vitakruid Vegan Omega 3 1000 triglycerides (60 or 90 softgels) contains per softgel 1050 mg algae oil concentrate (life’s™ OMEGA) with 500 mg omega 3 fatty acids, of which at least 100 mg EPA and 300 mg DHA. The algae oil is produced by fermentation from the microalga Schizochytrium sp. and is in its natural triglyceride (TG) form. Each softgel also contains 2.1 mg vitamin E as D-alpha-tocopherol. Take 1 to 2 softgels per day with your evening meal, and thanks to the softgel, you won’t taste the algae oil. The product is suitable for vegetarians and vegans and available in 60 and 90 softgels, for different usage periods.
Fatty acids are the building blocks of fats. Omega 3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids that naturally occur in algae, oily fish and certain plant foods. The best-known forms are EPA, DHA, and ALA.
Algae produce EPA and DHA themselves. Fish obtain these fatty acids by eating algae, or by eating sea creatures that eat algae. So, by using algae oil, you use the original source of EPA and DHA, with no fish required. This makes the product suitable for vegans.
Schizochytrium is a microalga that is naturally found in the Northern Pacific Ocean. This alga produces both EPA and DHA. The algal strain used in this product is not genetically modified.
TG stands for triglycerides, the form in which fats naturally occur in foods. A triglyceride consists of three fatty acids bound to one glycerol molecule. When concentrating omega 3, ethyl esters are sometimes formed. In this product, the omega 3 has been returned to its natural triglyceride form.
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that naturally occurs in plant oils, nuts, seeds and green leafy vegetables. Omega 3 fatty acids are sensitive to oxidation. Vitamin E is therefore added as an antioxidant to preserve the quality of the algae oil. Each softgel contains 2.1 mg vitamin E as D-alpha-tocopherol.
Algae oil is a fat, and EPA and DHA are fatty acids. That’s why it’s recommended to take the softgels with a meal that contains fat, such as a meal with nuts, seeds, avocado, tofu or a dish prepared with oil.
