Vitakruid Vitex Agnus Castus Chaste Tree (60 capsules) contains 200 mg of chaste tree extract (Vitex agnus-castus) per capsule, also known as chasteberry. The extract is standardised for 0.5% agnuside and 0.6% aucubin, two natural plant compounds from chaste tree. Take 1 to 2 capsules per day with a meal, so you can flexibly adapt the intake to your daily rhythm. These capsules are suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Chaste tree (Vitex agnus-castus) is a shrub with purple flowers and small, dark fruits with a peppery flavour. The plant naturally occurs in, among other regions, the Mediterranean and Central Asia. The extract in this supplement is made from this plant.
The name chaste tree refers to medieval monasteries, where the peppery fruits were used as a substitute for pepper. The name chasteberry is derived from the Latin name agnus castus, in which ‘castus’ means chaste.
Agnuside and aucubin are natural plant compounds belonging to the iridoid group. They are naturally present in chaste tree. Aucubin also occurs in other plants, such as plantain.
This means that the extract always contains a fixed content of these plant compounds. Each capsule with 200 mg extract therefore contains 1 mg agnuside and 1.2 mg aucubin. This ensures every production batch has the same composition.
Chaste tree has been used for centuries in traditional herbalism around the Mediterranean. A supplement allows you to easily add this herb in a fixed amount to your daily routine, without having to work with the plant or the fruits yourself.
