Vitakruid SilSolutions® (500 or 1000 ml) contains 70 mg elemental silicon and 80 mg vitamin C (ascorbic acid) per daily dose of 20 ml. The silicon comes from nettle extract (Urtica dioica) and is in the form of monomethylsilanetriol (MMST), a stable, organic silicon compound. The liquid has a tropical flavour, is sweetened with stevia, and can easily be measured using the supplied measuring cup. Take 20 ml per day in the morning on an empty stomach, so it fits easily into your morning routine. The product is available in 500 and 1000 ml sizes for different periods of use and is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Silicon is a mineral and one of the most common elements in the earth's crust. In nature, silicon is always bound to other elements, such as oxygen. Silicon is also present in many foods.
Silicon naturally occurs in, among others, oats, millet, dates, bananas, raisins, and lentils. Green leafy vegetables, such as spinach, kale and nettle, also contain silicon.
MMST stands for monomethylsilanetriol (CH₃Si(OH)₃). It is an organic silicon compound that is formed when, in orthosilicic acid, one hydroxyl group (-OH) is replaced by a methyl group (-CH₃). As a result, the compound is more stable and remains dissolved in water for longer.
Orthosilicic acid (Si(OH)₄) is the form in which silicon is naturally found in, among others, nettle. In high concentrations this form is not stable. Therefore, the silicon in SilSolutions is converted into MMST.
Nettle (Urtica dioica) is a plant that naturally grows widely in Europe, often along woodland edges and verges. 'Herba' means the above-ground parts of the plant are used. Nettle is naturally rich in silicon.
Vitamin C is mainly found in vegetables and fruit. Good sources include bell pepper, kale, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kiwi, oranges, strawberries, and blackcurrants.
