Laveen Vitamin D3 and K2 Olive Drops (30 ml) contain vitamin D3 from lichen and vitamin K2 as MK-7, based on organic extra virgin olive oil. Per 5 drops that's 10 mcg (400 IU) vitamin D3 and 35 mcg vitamin K2. The drops are suitable for the whole family from 3 months of age. Babies and children take 5 drops a day, teenagers and adults take 10 drops. You take the drops directly from a spoon or mix them into the bottle, milk, yoghurt, or porridge, so they easily fit into your daily routine. The drops are Vegan Society certified and one bottle lasts 2 to 4 months.
Vitamin K2 is produced by bacteria and is therefore mainly found in fermented foods. Natto, a Japanese product made from fermented soybeans, is the best-known source of MK-7. Smaller amounts of vitamin K2 are also found in cheese, egg yolk, and meat.
Vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) comes from plants, mainly green leafy vegetables like kale and spinach. Vitamin K2 (menaquinone) is produced by bacteria and is found in fermented and animal products. These drops contain vitamin K2 as MK-7.
Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) comes from yeasts and mushrooms. Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is the form also found in oily fish and eggs. In supplements, vitamin D3 is usually derived from wool fat (lanolin).
Lichen is a collaboration between a fungus and an alga or cyanobacterium, and is one of the few plant-based sources of vitamin D3. Because the vitamin D3 comes from lichen and not wool fat, the drops are suitable for vegans.
Vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 are both fat-soluble. They dissolve in oil and not in water. This means both vitamins can be in one olive oil bottle together and every drop is compositionally identical.
