NOCCO BCAA cans: what is inside and who they suit
NOCCO stands for No Carbs Company, a Swedish brand that launched its first can in 2014. The range is built on one idea: a carbonated, sugar-free drink that carries amino acids and B vitamins instead of sugar. Most flavours hold 180 mg of caffeine per 330 ml can, roughly the same as two cups of coffee.
What is actually in the can
BCAA means branched-chain amino acids: leucine, isoleucine and valine, three protein building blocks the body cannot make itself. The caffeinated cans contain 3,000 mg in a 4:1:1 ratio. The caffeine-free BCAA+ cans contain 5,000 mg. We are precise about what that means. There is no approved European health claim for branched-chain amino acids, so we do not promise muscle growth from a can. The approved claims belong to the other ingredients: caffeine contributes to increased alertness and improved concentration, and vitamins B6, B12, niacin and folic acid contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
Which variant fits which moment
- NOCCO BCAA: the standard cans with caffeine, for training days and long shifts.
- NOCCO BCAA+: caffeine free with more amino acids, so it also works late in the evening.
- NOCCO Focus: caffeine and vitamins, no amino acids, made for desk and gaming sessions.
- NOCCO Electrolyte: lightly carbonated with magnesium and potassium, which contribute to normal muscle function. Compare it with our electrolyte drinks and powders.
Why we stock NOCCO
NOCCO fits our selection because the label can be checked line by line: a fixed BCAA amount, a stated caffeine figure per can, and vitamin doses you can read off the tin. No proprietary blend hides the numbers. The cans are vegan and free from the common allergens, which matters for a drink people buy by the case. We buy directly from the brand, so your stock is authentic, and our compliance team reviews every flavour before it goes live. We also test products ourselves, with independent labs spot-checking batches. Honest limit: this is a convenient drink, not a replacement for the protein in your meals. Read how we choose our brands.
Convenience has a price per gram. A tub of powder gives you more amino acids for your money, but you have to scoop, mix and carry it. Buy NOCCO for the format: cold, carbonated and ready in the gym bag. If the format matters less to you, look at the wider range of ready-to-drink cans first.
These cans suit adults who train and want caffeine and flavour without sugar. They are less suitable if you are sensitive to caffeine, and the caffeinated versions are not intended for under-18s or for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Sucralose provides the sweetness, so if you avoid sweeteners the range is not for you. Everything else we carry sits under our brand overview, with the same checks applied.
Frequently asked questions
What is NOCCO?
NOCCO is a Swedish functional drink brand, short for No Carbs Company, with its first product launched in 2014. Every can is carbonated, sugar-free and low in calories, sweetened with sucralose and enriched with B vitamins. Most flavours also carry branched-chain amino acids and caffeine. The range started in gyms in the Nordics and is now sold across Europe, including the UK, mainly in 330 ml cans bought singly or by the case.
Does NOCCO contain sugar or carbohydrates?
No. The name says it: no carbs, no sugar. A standard 330 ml can sits at roughly 15 to 20 kilocalories, and those come from the amino acids rather than from sugar. The sweet taste comes from sucralose, a sweetener. That makes the cans easy to fit into a calorie count, and it also means they do not give you the quick carbohydrate hit that a classic sports drink provides during long endurance sessions.
How much caffeine is in a can and how many can I drink a day?
Almost all caffeinated flavours contain 180 mg per 330 ml can, which is about 55 mg per 100 ml. That is more than most mainstream energy drinks. Count it against your whole day, including coffee and tea.
| Group | Caffeine guidance | Cans of 180 mg |
|---|---|---|
| Healthy adults, per day | 400 mg | About 2 |
| Healthy adults, single dose | 200 mg | About 1 |
| Pregnancy, per day | 200 mg | Not advised |
| Breastfeeding, per day | 200 mg | Not advised |
Which NOCCO should I choose?
Start with the caffeine question, then look at the amino acids. The table below sums up the four ranges.
| Variant | Caffeine | Amino acids | Best suited for |
|---|---|---|---|
| BCAA | Yes | Yes | Training, long days |
| BCAA+ | No | Yes, more | Evenings, caffeine-sensitive |
| Focus | Yes | No | Desk work, gaming |
| Electrolyte | Yes | No | Sweaty sessions, hot days |
If you already drink coffee in the morning, the caffeine-free BCAA+ is often the more sensible second can.
Should I drink NOCCO before or after training?
Both work, and the timing depends on what you want from it. For the caffeine effect on endurance, the approved guidance is 3 mg per kilo of body weight about an hour before exercise. For a 70 kg adult that is around 210 mg, slightly more than one can. If you train in the evening, the 180 mg can keep you awake for hours, so plenty of people use the caffeinated version before a morning session and BCAA+ afterwards.
Is a can of NOCCO the same as a BCAA powder?
Not quite. A caffeinated can gives 3,000 mg of BCAA, the caffeine-free version 5,000 mg. A scoop of powder usually gives more, at a lower cost per gram, and lets you set the dose yourself. What you pay extra for in a can is the format: chilled, carbonated and no mixing. If you want a measured dose and caffeine you control, look at a pre-workout powder instead.
Is NOCCO vegan and free from allergens?
Yes, all NOCCO products are vegan, and the range is free from the common allergens including milk, gluten and soy. Two seasonal Swedish flavours, Julmust and Paskmust, do contain gluten, so check the label if you order a seasonal case. The vitamins are synthetic rather than animal-derived, which is why the caffeine-free cans also fit a plant-based diet without further checks.
Who should avoid NOCCO?
The caffeinated cans are made for healthy adults. They are not intended for children or teenagers, for pregnant or breastfeeding women, or for anyone sensitive to caffeine. UK guidance sets 200 mg of caffeine a day during pregnancy, which one can already reaches. If you take medication that interacts with caffeine, or you have a heart or blood pressure condition, ask your doctor or pharmacist first. The caffeine-free BCAA+ range removes the stimulant but keeps the sweetener.
Do the cans count towards my daily fluid intake?
Largely, yes. A 330 ml can is mostly carbonated water, so it adds to your fluids like any other soft drink. Caffeine has a mild diuretic effect at higher intakes, so we would not build a training day's hydration on caffeinated cans alone. On hot days or during long sessions, water plus the Electrolyte variant is the more sensible pairing: magnesium and potassium contribute to normal muscle function.
