Vitakruid Active Folic Acid 400 mcg (90 tablets) provides this B vitamin in a dosage of 400 mcg per tablet. Folic acid (vitamin B11) is especially recommended before and during the first trimester of pregnancy. This supplement contains folate in the natural form of folic acid (Quatrefolic®), which ensures excellent bioavailability. The small tablets are easy to swallow.
Folic acid supplementation increases the mother's folate status. A low maternal folate status is a risk factor for spina bifida in the developing fetus. For this beneficial effect, it is advised to take an extra 400 mcg of folic acid per day, for at least one month before and up to three months after conception.
Quatrefolic® 5-MTHF is active folate, which can be used directly by the body. Regular folic acid is a synthetic form often used in supplements. It still needs to be converted by the body to 5-MTHF, which does not happen efficiently for everyone.
