NatureWise Organic Flaxseed Oil 1200 mg (30, 60, 120, 240 softgels) contains cold-pressed flaxseed oil, a plant-based source of omega-3 fatty acids (alpha-linolenic acid). This oil also contains omega-6 and omega-9 and is a plant-based alternative to fish oil.
Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is an essential omega-3 fatty acid that the body cannot produce on its own and must be obtained through the diet. Other omega-3 fatty acids, such as EPA and DHA, are not essential because the body can convert ALA into EPA and DHA to a limited extent.
Flaxseed oil provides plant-based omega-3 fatty acids (ALA), while fish oil offers the 'fish-derived fatty acids' EPA and DHA. In the body, ALA can be converted into EPA and DHA.
Cold-pressed flaxseed oil retains its natural omega-3 fatty acids (ALA) and antioxidants better because no heating occurs.
It contains gelatin, making it unsuitable for vegetarians and vegans.
