Laveen Magnesium Rest & Relax (30 capsules) contains 109 mg of magnesium from magnesium bisglycinate per daily dose, supplemented with passionflower and valerian extract (5:1), taurine, vitamin C, and vitamins B6, B11, and B12. The plant-based capsules are easy to take with water and are suitable for vegans. If you'd rather not take a capsule, you can also mix the contents into yoghurt, a smoothie, or porridge. Why is vitamin C in the form of magnesium ascorbate?

Magnesium ascorbate is vitamin C bound to magnesium. It is a buffered, less acidic form of vitamin C than ascorbic acid. Because vitamin C is bound to magnesium, this form aligns with the main ingredient of the formula.

Why does this supplement contain magnesium bisglycinate?

Magnesium bisglycinate is a chelate: magnesium is bound to two molecules of glycine, an amino acid. This creates a stable compound, unlike loose magnesium salts such as magnesium oxide. The 109 mg on the label is the amount of pure magnesium per 2 capsules, not the weight of the whole compound.

Where is magnesium naturally found?

Magnesium is naturally found in green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, whole grains, legumes, and cocoa. A supplement like this is often chosen as a complement to these foods.

What is valerian?

Valerian is a perennial plant that naturally occurs in Europe and parts of Asia. The best-known species is true valerian (Valeriana officinalis), of which mainly the root is traditionally used. What does 5:1 mean in a plant extract?

The ratio 5:1 means that 5 parts of plant material are used for 1 part of extract. This allows a concentrated form of the herb to fit into a capsule. An extract ratio indicates the concentration and is different from standardisation to a fixed content of a specific component.

What is taurine?
