Optimox Iodoral 50 mg (30 or 90 tablets) is a supplement with a combination of elemental iodine and potassium iodide, with a total amount of iodine per tablet of 50 mg. Each tablet contains 20 mg iodine and 30 mg derived from iodide. The tablets are developed for people who consciously choose a high daily intake of iodine in solid form.
Lugol’s solution is originally a liquid mixture of iodine and potassium iodide, but in this product it has been converted to tablet form for precise dosing. Each tablet provides a concentrated amount of iodine and iodide, similar to the composition of the classic liquid solution.
Different forms are used to optimize the absorption and stability of the supplement. Some people tolerate the combination better than single forms.
Iodine in supplements can appear as elemental iodine or as iodide, such as potassium iodide. Elemental iodine is the neutral form, whereas iodide is a charged mineral compound. Both forms provide iodine, but differ in structure, solubility and the way they are processed in the formulation.
