Bonusan Lutein & Zeaxanthin (100 capsules) contains marigold flower extract (Tagetes erecta flores), processed as the patented Lutemax® 2020, standardised to at least 10% lutein and at least 2% zeaxanthin. Each capsule provides 60 mg of this extract, of which 6 mg is lutein and 1.20 mg is zeaxanthin. The capsules are plant-based and suitable for vegetarians and vegans. The recommended dosage is 1 to 2 capsules per day, to be taken during or immediately after a meal.
Lutein and zeaxanthin are carotenoids, plant-based colour pigments naturally found in various vegetables, fruits and flowers. They belong to the group of xanthophylls, a subgroup of the carotenoids.
Lutein and zeaxanthin are naturally present in dark green leafy vegetables, such as spinach, kale and broccoli, as well as in sweetcorn and egg yolk.
Tagetes erecta, also known as marigold or African marigold, is a flowering plant from the aster family, originally from Mexico and Central America. The petals of this plant naturally contain a high concentration of lutein and zeaxanthin.
Tagetes erecta is known for its relatively high and stable concentration of lutein and zeaxanthin in the petals, which is why this plant has been the main commercial source for these carotenoids for decades.
Lutemax® 2020 is a patented extract from Tagetes erecta, with a fixed, natural ratio between lutein and zeaxanthin (5:1), as also occurs in certain foods.
Versabead® is a technology used in the production of Lutemax® 2020, developed to evenly distribute the carotenoids and protect them against influences such as light and oxygen.
A standardised extract has a guaranteed content of certain active ingredients, ensuring consistent composition between different batches.
