21st Century Kalos & Splendor Gelatine (100 capsules) contains gelatin, processed as both the filling and the shell of the capsule. One capsule provides 600 mg of gelatin. The recommended dosage is 1 capsule with each meal, three times a day. The pack contains 100 capsules.
Gelatin is a protein, derived from connective tissue, skin or bones of animals by heating and processing. It is used in food as a gelling agent, thickener or stabiliser, for example in sweets, desserts and capsules.
Collagen is the original protein naturally found in animal connective tissue. Gelatin is formed when collagen is heated and partially broken down, giving it a different structure and solubility.
In this product, the gelatin is not only processed as a loose filling in the capsule but also forms the shell of the capsule itself.
Gelatin and hydrolysed collagen are both derived from collagen but differ in the degree of processing. Gelatin forms a gel structure when cooled, while hydrolysed collagen is further broken down into smaller peptides and remains soluble, even in cold liquids.
Gelatin itself is not a naturally occurring food, but is extracted from animal connective tissue. Products such as bone broth naturally contain gelatin, as it is released during the long cooking of bones and connective tissue.
