Omega-3 is a group of polyunsaturated fatty acids found in food. The most well-known forms are DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). They naturally occur in oily fish, but also in plant-based sources such as algae.

Instead of fish oil, these supplements use algae oil derived from Schizochytrium sp.. This makes it a 100% plant-based product. In addition, it is highly dosed with 350 mg DHA and 100 mg EPA per 2 capsules.

Both DHA and EPA are omega-3 fatty acids, but with different structures and origins. DHA occurs frequently in algae and is the most prevalent form in this supplement. EPA is often sourced from fish, but in this case is also plant-based because it comes from the same alga.

All three are fatty acids, but they differ in structure and source. Omega-3 comes from fish, flaxseed and algae, among others. Omega-6 is found in plant oils such as sunflower oil. Omega-9 is found in olive oil and avocados. Omega-3 is harder to obtain from a plant-based diet, making this supplement relevant.
