21st Century Magnesium 250 mg (110 or 250 tablets) contains 250 mg of elemental magnesium from magnesium oxide per tablet, supplemented with 65 mg calcium from calcium carbonate. With just 1 tablet per day with a meal of your choice, the supplement easily fits into your daily routine. The tablets are suitable for vegans. Available in packs of 110 and 250 tablets, enough for over 3.5 or over 8 months.
Magnesium oxide is an inorganic form of magnesium with a high content of elemental magnesium per gram. It is often used because of its compact composition and long shelf life. A disadvantage is that this form dissolves less well in water, which means it is absorbed relatively slowly.
Magnesium naturally occurs in, among others, spinach and other leafy vegetables, pumpkin seeds, almonds, cashews, beans, wholemeal bread and dark chocolate.
Yes. With a high intake of magnesium from supplements, a laxative effect may occur. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) uses 250 mg per day as the safe upper limit for magnesium from supplements for adults. Magnesium from normal food does not count towards this. With 1 tablet per day, you get exactly 250 mg, so do not combine this product with another magnesium supplement.
Elemental magnesium refers to the amount of magnesium that is actually available per serving, regardless of the weight of the compound it is bound to.
Calcium naturally occurs in, among others, milk, cheese and yoghurt, green leafy vegetables such as kale and broccoli, almonds, sesame seeds and sardines with bones. Plant-based sources also include tofu and some mineral waters.
| Composition per serving (1 tablet) | Amount | RI* |
|---|---|---|
| Calcium (as calcium carbonate) | 65 mg | 8.12% |
| Elemental magnesium (as magnesium oxide) | 250 mg | 66.67% |
