What the BONO label covers
BONO is our own label, sitting on the shelf next to the other brands in our range. We only put our name on a product when we think the market is missing a sensible version at a fair price, so the range stays small on purpose. Its core is hydrolysed collagen: collagen broken into short fragments called peptides, so the gut takes them up more easily. You will find it as a flavoured powder that dissolves in water or a smoothie, and as capsules with marine collagen, vitamin C and coconut oil powder.
The added nutrients carry the claims, not the collagen
Collagen itself has no authorised health claim in the UK or the EU, and we would rather say that than talk around it. The nutrients we add do have approved wording. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin. Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal hair and normal skin. That is the honest basis of these formulas: the peptides supply amino acids, the added nutrients carry the claim. Powder and capsules serve different routines
The daily amounts used in collagen studies are measured in grams, not milligrams. Powder is the practical way to reach that: one scoop, stirred into coffee, water or yoghurt. Capsules are easier to carry and easier to take if you dislike a slightly savoury drink, but you need several to match a scoop. They suit people who want a modest, steady daily amount rather than a full study dose. Whichever you pick, give it two to three months of daily use before you decide what it does for you. That is how long the research took to see changes in skin, and a fortnight tells you nothing.
How we decide what may carry our name
We judge our own label the way we judge every other brand: form first, then dose, then the combination. We choose hydrolysed peptides because that is the form nearly every human study uses. We add vitamin C because it has a role in the body's own collagen formation, not because it reads well on a label. We are brand-neutral and outcome-first, so when another brand does it better, we stock theirs and say so. Hydrolysed means the long collagen strands have been cut into short pieces, called peptides, before the powder is packed. Whole collagen is a large, poorly soluble protein. The shorter peptides dissolve easily and are absorbed more readily, which is why almost every human study uses this form rather than plain gelatine. On a label you may also see "collagen peptides" or "collagen hydrolysate". Those describe the same thing, so the wording alone does not tell you whether a product is well dosed.

Timing matters far less than consistency. Collagen peptides are absorbed as amino acids, so there is no fixed best moment: pick a time you will not forget, such as with your morning coffee or your evening tea. Warm drinks dissolve the powder faster than cold ones. Taking it with a source of vitamin C is sensible, because vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin. Our formulas already include vitamin C, so a separate tablet is usually unnecessary.
Plan for two to three months of daily use. The trials that report changes in skin elasticity and hydration ran for roughly eight to twelve weeks at a meaningful daily dose. People who conclude that collagen does nothing have usually taken a small amount for a fortnight. That is the honest picture: a modest, gradual effect for skin and comfort during exercise, not a visible change after a week. No collagen supplement is suitable for vegans or vegetarians, ours included. Collagen is an animal protein, so it comes from cattle hide and bone or from fish skin and scales. Our powder uses type 1 bovine collagen; the capsules use marine collagen, which suits people who avoid beef but not those with a fish allergy. "Vegan collagen" products on the market contain no collagen at all: they supply nutrients such as vitamin C and zinc that support your own collagen formation.
Both nutrients are added at levels that let the approved claim be made, well inside UK guidance. For context:
