The formula is supplemented with 7.5 mg black pepper extract (Piper nigrum), standardised to 95% piperine. As coenzyme Q10 is fat-soluble, it is dissolved in rice bran oil, in a plant-based softgel that is easy to swallow. The softgels are suitable for vegans. You only need 1 softgel per day with a meal, meaning one pack lasts for 30 or 90 days.
Coenzyme Q10, also known as Q10 or CoQ10, is a fat-soluble, vitamin-like substance. It naturally occurs in the cells of humans, animals and plants. In addition, it is present in small amounts in food.
Coenzyme Q10 is mainly found in organ meats, such as heart and liver, and in fatty fish, such as sardines and mackerel. Smaller amounts can be found in meat, nuts, plant oils and vegetables like spinach and broccoli.
Ubiquinone and ubiquinol are two forms of coenzyme Q10. Ubiquinone is the oxidised form and ubiquinol the reduced form. Ubiquinone is more stable and is most commonly used in supplements. Ubiquinol is more sensitive to oxygen. This supplement contains ubiquinone, also referred to as ubidecarenone on the label.
Coenzyme Q10 for supplements is usually produced through fermentation. During this process, yeasts or bacteria produce the substance, after which it is purified. The manufacturer does not state which production method is used for this product.
Coenzyme Q10 is fat-soluble. That means it dissolves in fat but not in water. That is why, in this product, it is dissolved in rice bran oil and packed in a softgel, a soft capsule with a liquid interior.
Piperine is the substance that gives black pepper its sharp taste. It naturally occurs in the peppercorns of the pepper plant.
Black pepper (Piper nigrum) is a climbing plant originally from South India. The berries are harvested unripe and dried, which makes them black and wrinkled. This is how the familiar black peppercorns are produced.
