Yes. Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that is stored in the body. This makes it perfectly fine to take a dosage of 125 mcg every other day. This dosage is more suitable for long-term use.
IU (International Units) and micrograms (mcg) are two ways of indicating the amount of vitamin D. 1 mcg equals 40 IU. This softgel contains 125 mcg, which is equivalent to 5000 IU.
Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) is mainly found in plant-based sources such as mushrooms, while vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) originally comes from animal sources.
Vitamin D3 is mainly found in fatty fish, eggs, liver and fortified products such as margarine. It is also present in smaller amounts in meat and dairy.
Vitamin D3 in supplement form is usually derived from wool fat (lanolin) from sheep. There are also vegan alternatives based on lichens, although these are less commonly used.
