What is maitake?
Maitake (Grifola frondosa) is an edible mushroom that originally grows at the base of deciduous trees, such as oaks. The mushroom is naturally found in Japan, China and North America.
Why is only the fruiting body used?
The fruiting body is the visible part of the mushroom that grows above the substrate. This product is made exclusively from fruiting bodies and contains no mycelium.
What is the difference between a fruiting body and mycelium?
The fruiting body is the entire, harvested mushroom. Mycelium is the underground network of fungal threads on which the mushroom grows. Some extracts are made from the fruiting body, others from the mycelium.
