Hair mask
Hair mask
Hair masks. One of the most important hair products you have in your bathroom when it comes to intensive nourishment and care of your hair. A hair mask is indispensable if you want to keep your hair healthy. Especially for dry and damaged hair, a mask is a must for your style. By regularly using a hair mask, you improve the health of your hair, as it provides just a bit more intensive care than other hair care products.
How does a hair mask actually work?
You use it regularly, but many people do not know exactly what a hair mask is and what it does for your hair. A hair mask adds a layer over your hair. Compare it to a kind of coating. It makes your hair softer and restores shine. This layer that covers your hair also protects it from wear and damage from external factors. Think of damage from heat tools or sun exposure. The hair mask is therefore the essential step in your hair routine that you really cannot skip!
Properties of a hair mask:
- Cares for the hair
- Nourishes the hair
- Adds a protective layer over the hair
- Protects the hair from wear and damage
Choosing a hair mask:
- Determine your hair type.
- The goal of the hair mask for you.
- Which ingredients and products are beneficial for your style/hair challenge.
- Read reviews.
How do you use a hair mask?
If all goes well, after these steps you will have the best hair mask for your hair at home and you can get started with that one step that intensely nourishes and cares for your hair. The way you use a hair mask also affects the end result. There are actually two important factors. First, do not apply the hair mask to your roots. The hair here is usually already oilier naturally due to the natural oils (sebum) you produce yourself. Using intensive nourishing hair care on the roots often makes your hair greasy faster. Start at the ends and work your way up. Usually the packaging says to leave a hair mask on for 3-5 minutes. We recommend leaving it on for a few minutes longer for better results. For example, let the mask work for 10 minutes while you shave your legs or apply a face mask. Some people even leave a hair mask on overnight. If you have extremely dry and heavily damaged hair, this can be worth it. Because the hair cuticles are open, rinse with lukewarm/cold water. This closes the cuticles better and gives you guaranteed smooth hair!
Steps for using a hair mask:
- Apply to the hair, starting at the ends (avoid the roots) and work your way up.
- Let the hair mask work for as long as your hair needs (for damaged hair, this can be longer than indicated). At least 5 minutes!
- Rinse with lukewarm/cold water.
How often can you use a hair mask?
Washing your hair too often is not healthy. It only dries it out more. Try to wash your hair as little as possible. Ideally, just once a week. But in practice, almost no one does this. In any case, do not wash it more than 3 times a week so you don't affect the production of your natural oils. So this usage frequency also applies to your hair mask. Does your hair feel greasier than usual? Then consider using only conditioner during your next wash instead of a hair mask. A conditioner is just a little less concentrated. This way you prevent your hair from getting even greasier.
