What is Schwarzkopf Professional?

Schwarzkopf Professional is the salon division of Schwarzkopf, a German hair brand founded in Berlin in 1898 by chemist Hans Schwarzkopf. It is part of Henkel and works mainly with hairdressers and salons. The portfolio covers colour, care and styling, with named ranges such as IGORA, BLONDME, BC Bonacure, Fibre Clinix, OSiS+ and Silhouette. The brand was behind early launches including the first liquid shampoo and the first hairspray.

Is Schwarzkopf Professional the same as the Schwarzkopf products in the supermarket?

Accepted Answer

No. They share a name and an owner, but not a portfolio. Supermarket lines such as göt2b are made for self-service shelves and general use. The professional lines are developed for salon work, which shows in three practical ways: ranges split by a single concern instead of broad claims, larger salon formats up to 1000 ml, and colour products that assume trained hands. Price per bottle is usually higher, price per wash is often lower in the big sizes.

Are these products vegan and free from sulphates?

Partly, and it depends on the line. BC Bonacure uses a vegan keratin made from wheat and soy amino acids with arginine and serine, so no animal-derived keratin. Several Bonacure ranges also leave out SLS and SLES sulphates, silicones and artificial colourants. That is not true for every product in the wider portfolio, so check the ingredient list on the product page. If a fully vegan routine matters to you, filter on the range first.

How do I use a repair treatment, and how long before I notice a difference?

Apply it to towel-dried hair after shampooing, leave it in for up to ten minutes and rinse well. It replaces your conditioner in that wash instead of being layered over it. Hair usually feels smoother straight away, because the effect is cosmetic and rebuilds with each use. Give it two to three weeks of consistent use before you judge the result on breakage and split ends. Our conditioners cover the lighter days in between.

Are the 1000 ml salon bottles worth buying for home use?

Accepted Answer

They can be, with one condition: you have to stay with the same line. Litre bottles bring the cost per wash down clearly, and they cut packaging. The trade-off is commitment. A litre of shampoo lasts many months, so if you switch ranges after four weeks you are left with a large bottle you no longer use. Our advice: test the 250 ml size first, then buy the salon format once the routine works for you.

Can I use IGORA colour or BLONDME lightener at home?

These are professional products, developed for trained use, and the results depend on mixing ratio, developer strength and timing. Lighteners in particular are unforgiving on hair that has already been processed. If you do use them, follow the manufacturer's instructions exactly, including the allergy alert test before every single colour application, and a strand test on a small section. If you are unsure about your starting colour, a salon visit is the safer route.

Why does Colour Freeze work at pH 4.5, and does that really slow colour fade?

Accepted Answer

Colour pigments sit inside the hair, and they escape most easily when the outer layer, the cuticle, is swollen open. Water and alkaline products swell it. An acidic formula at pH 4.5 helps bring the hair back to its own natural range, so the cuticle lies flatter and holds pigment longer. The brand states colour protection with close to zero fade. Realistically it slows fading rather than stopping it; heat, sun and hard water still take their share.
