It now works in more than thirty countries and employs hundreds of pharmacists. The consumer side of the range is the part you see here: simple base creams and ointments, mouthwashes, silicone scar gel and minoxidil lotion. The formulations come from pharmacy practice, which is why they look plain and list very few ingredients.

Are Fagron products skincare or medicines?

Both, depending on the product. The base creams and ointments are emollients: moisturising products that reduce water loss from the skin. They are care products, not treatments for a skin condition. Other items, such as minoxidil lotion, are licensed medicines with a patient information leaflet, warnings and an age limit. Always read the leaflet that comes with a medicine, and check with your pharmacist or GP if you already use something on the same area.

Smooth it on in the direction your hair grows instead of rubbing it in, which helps avoid blocked hair follicles. With a tub, use a clean spoon rather than your fingers, so you do not add bacteria to the pot. The most common mistake is using too little, too rarely, and then concluding the cream does not work.

Can I use a base cream together with a prescribed steroid cream?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but not at the same moment. Leave roughly twenty to thirty minutes between the emollient and the steroid, otherwise you dilute the steroid and spread it further than intended. Your GP or pharmacist can tell you which to apply first for your situation. Using a base cream regularly is worth it: people who moisturise consistently often need less of the stronger product over time.

Is cetomacrogol cream the same as aqueous cream?

No, and the difference matters in the UK. Aqueous cream contains sodium lauryl sulphate, a detergent that can cause burning, stinging, itching and redness, so it is no longer recommended as a leave-on moisturiser. Cetomacrogol cream is a different base and is used as a plain emollient, with vaseline added in some versions to make it richer. If any base product stings and the feeling does not settle after rinsing, ask a pharmacist about a different one.

Are paraffin ointments a fire risk?

Yes, and this is worth knowing before you buy a rich ointment. Paraffin-based products are flammable. Clothing, bedding and dressings that soak up the ointment catch fire easily, and washing does not always remove the residue. Keep away from cigarettes, candles and open flames while you have it on your skin. Also take care in the bath or shower, since emollients make surfaces slippery. Used sensibly, these are still the best options for very dry skin.

How long does Fagron Minoxidil Lotion take to show results?

Plan for three to four months of daily use before you judge it, and keep photographs so you can compare fairly. Some people notice more shedding in the first weeks; that is a known part of the cycle rather than a sign it is failing. The effect lasts only as long as you keep using it, so treat it as a routine, not a course. It is not suitable under eighteen or over sixty-five.
