Q: Which supplements make a sensible daily base in the UK?

For most people three items cover the ground. Vitamin D3 , because UK sunlight from October to March is too weak for your skin to make enough. Omega-3 , if you eat oily fish less than twice a week. And either a broad multivitamin or a small set of targeted products, depending on your diet. Vegans usually add vitamin B12 and iodine. Anything beyond that should answer a specific question, not fill a shelf.

Question 1

What does the IMMUNITY + VITALITY pillar cover?

Accepted Answer

It is our umbrella for everyday health support. Instead of one ingredient, it groups the nutrients most people use as a daily base: vitamin D3, vitamin C, zinc, selenium, multivitamins, B vitamins, iron, magnesium, probiotics and omega-3. Underneath it sit five goals: resistance, energy, gut and microbiome, heart and blood vessels, and longevity. Start with the pillar if you want an overview, or go straight to the goal that matches your question.

Question 3

How much vitamin D is recommended in the UK?

Accepted Answer

UK guidance uses one baseline amount for almost everyone, plus upper limits you should not pass without medical advice. Labels show micrograms (mcg) and international units (IU): 10 mcg equals 400 IU.

Group	Daily amount	Upper limit
Adults and children over 4	10 mcg (400 IU)	100 mcg (4,000 IU)
Children 1 to 10	10 mcg (400 IU)	50 mcg (2,000 IU)
Babies under 12 months	8.5 to 10 mcg	25 mcg (1,000 IU)

Question 4

Which form should I choose: tablets, capsules, drops or gummies?

Accepted Answer

Form mainly decides whether you keep taking it. The nutrient matters more than the shell, so pick what fits your day.

Group	Daily amount	Upper limit
Adults and children over 4	10 mcg (400 IU)	100 mcg (4,000 IU)
Children 1 to 10	10 mcg (400 IU)	50 mcg (2,000 IU)
Babies under 12 months	8.5 to 10 mcg	25 mcg (1,000 IU)

Question 5

Can I take vitamin C, zinc and vitamin D at the same time?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and many products combine exactly these. Vitamin D is fat-soluble, so take it with a meal that contains some fat for better absorption. Zinc on an empty stomach can cause nausea, so food helps there too. One practical note: high doses of zinc taken long term compete with copper, which is why we prefer complexes that include a small amount of copper, or a moderate zinc dose of around 10 to 15 mg for daily use.

Question 6

How long does it take before I notice anything?

Accepted Answer

Plan for two to three weeks of consistent use, and longer for stores that build slowly. Vitamin D levels rise over weeks, not days, and iron can take a couple of months to rebuild. If you were genuinely low in something, the change is usually gradual: less afternoon slump, steadier weeks. If you were not low, you may notice nothing at all, and that is a normal outcome rather than a failure of the product.

Question 7

Is a multivitamin enough on its own?

Accepted Answer

It depends on what you need. A multivitamin is good insurance across many nutrients at modest amounts, so it covers small gaps. What it rarely does is deliver a meaningful dose of one thing. Most contain 5 to 10 mcg of vitamin D and very little magnesium or omega-3. If your question is specific, a single-nutrient product works better, which is why many people combine a multivitamin with separate vitamin D3 products.

Question 8

Which groups should take extra care with these nutrients?

Accepted Answer

Three UK notes are worth knowing. If you are pregnant or trying to conceive, avoid supplements containing vitamin A and avoid liver, because too much vitamin A can harm the baby. If you take anticoagulant medication such as warfarin, speak to your GP before using vitamin K, since it affects how the medicine works. And take iron only when you know you need it, because excess iron builds up. If you use prescription medicines, check with your pharmacist first.
