Bifidobacterium is a genus of bacteria that is naturally present in, among others, fermented dairy products such as yoghurt and kefir. Each capsule contains 11 billion CFU from four Bifidobacterium strains: B. bifidum, B. longum, B. breve and B. lactis.
Fructo-oligosaccharides are short chains of fructose molecules and are classified as dietary fibres. They occur naturally in, among others, onion, garlic, leek, asparagus, banana, and chicory root. Each capsule contains 33 mg FOS.
A delayed-release capsule is designed so that it does not dissolve immediately in the stomach, like a regular capsule, but opens later in the digestive tract. The stomach is an acidic environment, and bacterial strains are live micro-organisms that are sensitive to acid. By using a delayed-release capsule, the bacterial strains remain inside the capsule as they pass through the stomach.
