Spirulina
Curious about what spirulina is and what it can offer? Here’s an overview.
What is spirulina?
Spirulina is a blue-green algae with a spiral shape. That is also where the name ‘spirulina’ in Latin comes from. Spirulina is almost as old as the earth itself, about 2.5 billion years. Spirulina is considered an algae that sits between bacteria and plants. It is currently mainly cultivated in outdoor tanks in warm countries around the equator.
Nutritional value of spirulina
Spirulina is known for its protein content and also contains a range of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin A, B1, B2, B6, C, E and K, as well as calcium, magnesium, and iron. It also contains small amounts of fatty acids such as GLA, DHA, and EPA.
Spirulina or chlorella? Or both?
The choice between spirulina and chlorella depends on personal preferences and nutritional needs. Both algae have their own unique properties.
How much spirulina per day?
The recommended dosage can vary. It is always advisable to follow the instructions on the label and start with a lower dosage. It is recommended to seek advice from a health professional, especially if you have existing health issues or are using other medications.
