Nordic Naturals Complete Omega Junior (90 or 180 softgels) combines omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA from fish oil with omega-6 GLA from borage seed oil. This formula is specially developed for children from 6 years old and contains a balanced mix of omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids. The fish oil is sourced from anchovies, sardines, mackerel, and herring, while the omega-6 is derived from the borage plant (Borago officinalis). The capsules have a mild lemon flavor and are small in size, making them easier for children to take. The composition is suitable for daily use in children who have difficulty getting enough fatty acids from food.
Omega-3, 6 and 9 are all fatty acids, but they come from different sources and each have a different structure. Omega-3 mostly comes from fish and algae, omega-6 is often found in vegetable oils such as sunflower oil, and omega-9 in olive oil and avocado.
In addition to omega-3 (EPA and DHA), this product also contains GLA, an omega-6 fatty acid from borage seed oil, and omega-9 fatty acids from natural sources. That makes it a complete mix.
GLA stands for gamma-linolenic acid. It is an omega-6 fatty acid that occurs in small amounts in certain plant oils, such as borage oil (comfrey).
Borage seed oil is extracted from the seeds of the borage plant (Borago officinalis), also known as comfrey. It is a plant-based source of GLA.
Oleic acid is an omega-9 fatty acid found in olive oil, among others. It is one of the fatty acids included in this mix to make the formula complete.
Yes, the softgels are small in size and have a mild lemon flavor. They are intended for children aged 6 to 12. For younger children, taking them can be done under supervision.
